Ingredients and purity
One hundred per cent pure borage oil (Borago officinalis), cold pressed from the seeds.
It is unrefined. Its gamma-linolenic acid content is among the highest of all plant oils.
Scent and feel
Lightly herbal and seedy, an unobtrusive scent. Medium-light texture.
Because it oxidises quickly it is sold in a small bottle and kept cool.
Who it suits, who it does not
Suitable for: face and body care, hair care, and as a carrier oil in aromatherapy blends.
Caution: it is for cosmetic purposes and is not to be eaten. Avoid contact with the eyes. Before first use, apply a drop to the inside of your arm and wait twenty-four hours. Do not use on open wounds or irritated skin. It is sensitive to light and heat, so storing it in the fridge is recommended.
Frequently asked questions
- Why is it sold in a small bottle?
- Borage oil oxidises quickly. The small bottle means it can be finished before it spoils once opened.
- How is it used on dry skin?
- A few drops in your night routine, on its own or mixed into your cream. It is a rich oil, so a small amount is enough.
- How is it stored and how long does it keep?
- Cool, dark and tightly closed. Fixed oils oxidise in light and heat, so use within six months to a year of opening. If it smells sour, do not use it.
